| Response Ficlet |
[Oct. 23rd, 2009|09:18 am] |
Response ficlet that's rather like response poetry. I should be working on my bestmatesxmas, but this was far too enticing not to write Harry & Draco silliness. ~1000 words. Unbeta'd LOL.
Title:Unsolicited Criticism Pairing: Harry/Draco Rating: PG slash (still it's for grown ups)
Summary: Draco is the SPAG master!!! Harry's his bitch!

| FIC: Visiting Hours (Part 1 of 2) - Snarry |
[Jul. 2nd, 2009|06:12 pm] |
Title: Visiting Hours (Part 1 of 2) Author: rickey_a Pairing: Snape/Harry Rating: NC-17 Warnings: None Word count: ~5,900 (~14k total)
Summary: Harry visits Snape in St. Mungo's after the war and it leads them down a new a road.
Notes: Hmmm, where to begin. I really loved the good karma concept of livelongnmarry but didn't feel comfortable auctioning off my writing. After the crazy wonderful bidding ended, I offered any price ficlets as consolation prizes for folks who wanted to donate money, but the bidding was just way out of their price league. So I wrote two ficlets last fall.
Then recently there was a post at livelongnmarry regarding a number of winning bidders (donations) that the goods never came through. Now absolutely some of them are well meaning folks who got inundated with real life and do still plan to make good (just late), but some are truly MIA. That bums me out. In particular, I saw that accioslash made quite a number of sizable donations to the cause, and hadn't received many of her winnings. I always see accioslash doing all sorts of pay it forward, gifts, and random acts of kindness for her friends-list and fandom, so I felt compelled to write some Snarry for her as a consolation prize. I had intended for it to be a short ficlet, but then there was this rabid bunny, and a full-fledged short story grew out of it. (I really hope you enjoy it and that it gives you some consolation)
Super duper beta thanks to thevina, tjwritter, and alisanne along with a shout to the gang at FFC and I.Smith for looking over the preliminary concept for me and offering some advice.

| What you SHOULD be reading... H/D recs |
[Apr. 7th, 2009|04:31 pm] |
(yes, I'm jumping on the bandwagon!)
You SHOULD be reading:
The last slip by pushdragon - Like everything else by Push, it's brilliant gorgeous writing. 2300 hundred words for a bushfire drabble (no not a drabble)... it's a brilliant short story that shows Push's mastery of suspense and Harry/Draco love.
and
calanthe_fics latest fic Gush shows why she is the queen of kink. A spectacular look at the kink of watersports in a completely different way from what I've read before. An in depth and detailed exploration of the power struggle and need for humiliation that is so fiercely rooted between Harry and Draco. Just. Wow. You have to be on her F-list to read, if not, I HIGHLY recommend joining her fic-only comm calanthe_fanfic so you can read this and all the rest of her impeccably written works. Please note all the warnings. |

| Giant hp10k_showcase Reccing Post |
[Apr. 5th, 2009|09:30 pm] |
The hp10k_showcase was a project constructed by a group of friends doing their version of a no-stress, no-pressure fic writing challenge. The challenge? The short story. The goal? Form a small, manageable group of writers who are interested in helping each other grow and learn. The other goal? Raise awareness for causes close to our hearts. The other other goal? Entertain you!
Below the cut are my quick summaries for all the fic and art posts in the hp10k_showcase. There's something for everyone - mostly H/D but a number or rare pairs tossed in. There's angst, drama, romance and comedy, and all are the highest quality writing along with gorgeous art. I proudly recommend them all. If you have time, please take a quick look at the brief awareness posts for the various causes. I was overwhelmed by the support and I had the best time participating. I learned so much and truly enjoyed working with all of these generous and talented people.

| Writers for Awareness |
[Jan. 10th, 2009|08:46 pm] |
My dear f-list, please indulge me to talk about something very near and dear to my heart. This is something that makes me smile. I'm going to be participating in the HP 10k Showcase. It's a very very small showcase of HP friends who want the challenge of an under 10k story and to raise awareness of a cause or issue important to us. I was rather inspired by Live Long n Marry by the way fandom can work as a community. I think this has the same potential. Also, if you've read any of my recent posts you know that I'm just not that into the big fest format anymore. Nothing personal, that's me. I like the idea of something smaller and more focused. I don't know if that will draw people or not, but we have a great line up of writers (and even a couple of artists) who all came together on this endeavor. Please check out the hp10k_showcase.
It's probably no surprise that my cause is Autism Awareness. There will be awareness posts on the comm to watch for in the weeks leading up to the fest in March. I realize that money might be tight for many people right now, so please know that this is not a fundraiser. For all of the causes, information will be presented as well as links on where to go for more information or places to make charitable contributions if you are so inclined. I will be making a contribution to Autism Speaks based on the number of watchers to the comm (although the final details still need to be worked out and I'll post more about that soon). In the meantime, please watch the comm and spread the word. I think this is going to be an exciting and different type of fandom project. It's going to have some great fic, art, and provide some personal perspectives on some very important issues.

oh and ps - there's also a comm on Insane Journal that will have links posted so that people who are mostly on Insane can follow along as well:) http://asylums.insanejournal.com/hp10k_showcase/ |

Title: A Mutually Beneficial Arrangement Between Two Former Childhood Enemies of Pureblood Status Rating: NC-17 Pairing(s): Neville/Draco Warnings: A little bit of kink. Porn, Porn, Porn! And not much else. Word Count: ~5100
Summary: It may be Harry's bachelor party, but it's Neville who's getting a night of pleasure under strange circumstances.
Author's Notes: Repost of my hp_yule_balls for lotus_lizzy who wanted Pr0n and Draco in tights. That was pretty much it. I endeavor to please. Original Posting here.: A Mutually Beneficial Arrangement Between Two Former Childhood Enemies of Pureblood Status

( It wasn't that he didn't like breasts. Neville didn't mind breasts at all. Being gay didn't mean that he hated women and certainly not breasts. He could appreciate firm perky breasts. He didn't even mind full voluminous breasts. However, gelatinous, spell-induced, gargantuan breasts were a bit off putting, especially when smothering the entirety of Ron Weasley's large head. ) |

| Final Fest Rec List and Reveals!!! |
[Jan. 8th, 2009|09:15 am] |
Much like last year's 2007 Fest Report Card, I've made a composite list of the recs I've made this holiday season.
(caveats, limitations, and disclaimers c/p from last year;) Most of my f-list knows that I went to school known for its academics. That said - it always graded on a "C curve". Yep absolutely NO Grade Inflation. So I've come to look at much in life as on the Gaussian curve (normal distribution) and see much of life on a C curve. The funny thing that most people forget when describing such a curve is that half of the curve is Below Average and the vast majority can be considered mediocre. So what's my point? I'm just putting A & B fics up for the sake of differentiating them but I think them all excellent reads and above average and rec them heartily. Please take no insult from a B grade. I mean it as a huge compliment as it is far better than the majority of C+ to B- fics out there. I'll also put the caveat out there that all this is simply IMHO. There were plenty of other fics that I read and thought meh...okay...and then saw other folks reccing them profusely. That's what makes chocolate and vanilla. These are to my taste.
One last thing… I (and I know I'm not alone) feel my interest in fests diminishing- both in reading and writing. I'm starting to see that I have a different vision of how I think I'd like to see group type presentation of fan fiction go in the future. I have thoughts on both quality and format. I figure that this is my fandom, my hobby, and it can be whatever I make it. I want to enjoy myself, and so it is up to me to create my own playground. As with anything in life, I am responsible for my own happiness. To that, I've also noticed that some of my favorite fics that I read & rec'd this holiday season were not from any fest. I'm going to add those to the list too, because IMHO they are not to be missed.

| a couple last minute recs: |
[Jan. 7th, 2009|03:27 pm] |
So here's 2 last recs from hd_holidays. I'll update my final fest rec list tomorrow w/the recs from this past week and the reveals that have gone up.
For the Public Good This is an extremely polished and sharp fic. There is so much to love about it - Great characterizations, fun story, charming humor. OK I'm a yank so a lot of the Brit political stuff was over my head, but that didn't stop me from immensely enjoying this story.
Hibiscus This is a gorgeously sculpted fic. It's what I might call a short "Art House Fic". I loved the imagery and how the whole thing unfolds quite mysteriously and the ending is perfect! (angst warning for those who only like Hollywood endings) |

|
| Rec and reveal |
[Jan. 3rd, 2009|03:44 pm] |
I printed out some stories to take with me...
I'll be adding The Potter-Malfoy Problem to my fest rec list - This is a tasty snarky RoR fic with a bit of mystery and the boys in young confused ex-enemy desire. It's a bit teenagery, has a few extra adjectives, and is a bit heavy on the internal monologuing for 17 year old boys, but absolutely a fun read. If you like the Hogwarts, unexpected feelings, and young confused sex, you'll like this fic.
hp_yule_balls reveals are up and you can see that I wrote: A Mutually Beneficial Arrangement Between Two Former Childhood Enemies of Pureblood Status This was a fun and hot Neville/Draco that was born out of lotus_lizzy pretty much only wanting Draco in tights for her gift fic. I'm rather pleased at the smut and humor balance of it. My Neville is tough but sweet. My Draco is a bit down but keeps his chin up. They find that they both like a bit of kink. Please do check it out - it's only 5k. |

| Interim 2008 Fest Report Card (Rec List) |
[Dec. 28th, 2008|08:45 am] |
Much like last year's 2007 Fest Report Card, I'm making a composite list of the recs I've made this holiday season. I plan to post again in January and put in the authors after the various reveals as well as make a few late additions that I may have missed due to RL inhibiting my fest reading.
(caveats, limitations, and disclaimers c/p from last year;) Most of my f-list knows that I went to school known for its academics. That said - it always graded on a "C curve". | rec n' along |
[Dec. 27th, 2008|03:31 pm] |
Hi, this will be my last rec post before my big long composite/grade post (later tonight or tomorrow). I'll be doing the family vacation thing, but will check in now and again. There are a few rec'd longer fics that I haven't read yet and look quite tasty so I'm printing them to take on the plane.
Non Fest Rec: Yes, it's no secret that I'm a huge drooling fan of pir8fancier's writing. What can I say? Her "angst" and "romance" tug at my emotions and her humor simply matches my idea of funny. And speaking of funny... and touching... I finished up the five part sequel to Bite Me Hate Me Memes- BMHM: The Wedding (yes, I rec'd this when she first started posting, but now it's done). Draco's brain is like none other. Have fun on this pre-nuptial roller coaster through Dracoland.
From hp_yule_balls is Good Breeding (31k NC-17, Charlie/Draco). I love a roughed up and down on his luck Draco. This is a delightful take on a beautiful to the marrow Charlie coming to comfort, but under the controversial Ministry forced M/M bonding and breeding law in the name of perpetuating purebloods. Suspend your disbelief and go along with it... a charming read (and hot too!).
From hd_holidays is Twelve Seemingly Insignificant Moments That Change Everything (5,600 word H/D Hard R) - I'll be honest and say that I'm not the hugest "epilogue compliant fic" fan. Mostly b/c I've only seen a few that were able to truly break out of the small handful of repetitive patterns that I've seen for these fics. And that's me... I'm not as interested in later and life post children fics. This one is well written, charming, and yes, follows one of the familiar epi fic patterns of seeing pieces of Harry's epilogue life and future encounters with Draco - we see their lives intertwine and then there's divorce and death and then they're gay and then they act on their feelings. I'm not insulting this pattern, a lot of people love these fics (they must b/c I see them everywhere)... so this sounds like more of a critique then a rec... no, it's a rec that if you like these stories, you will like this one and the reason I'm reccing it is that it has a fresh take on Ginny and H/G's marriage- kinky. The fic is short and enjoyable. |

|
| Merry Recmas! |
[Dec. 25th, 2008|10:36 am] |
Chag Sameach and Happy Christmas or Merry Yule or just Have a Nice Day to all! More recs today. I do plan (mostly b/c I am a total dork) to make a composite report card like last year but I may have to add more later after reveals etc.
Onto the recs:
From hd_holidays there's the 30k delightful Father of the Bride I'll be blunt and say that many of the longer (20-30k) recs that I've seen from other people had me completely baffled. Some were perhaps simply not my cuppa, but many were virtually unreadable (the writing and dialogue stiff and awkward, nothing happening in the first 5000 words to remotely interest me, etc.). Am I a fussy bitch? Maybe... but finally a longer fic that has been garnering recs that I think deserves them. :) This is well written, wonderfully paced, and "put together" fic. I think I spot the writing. I must first thank who ever the author turns out to be for making Lily/Scorpius the marrying couple. B/C I have a bug up my arse when everyone's gay, and AS/S + H/D is becoming overdone and getting hard to stomach. SOOOO THANK YOU. I Loved the Lily dynamic w/ her family (now just dad and protective brothers - I like how Ginny was sadly/not too recently deceased). In general I like this type of canonesque Harry, grown up, but still a protector, still skeptical, still trying to uncover just what Malfoy might be up to. Of course, they can't keep their hands off each other ;) The plot/investigation worked so tightly into the family was well done and happy ending lovers will get their cake (wedding) and eat it too. Go enjoy this lovely story.
From hp_yule_balls the fic Cicatrices is an emotional hurt/comfort Harry/Ron that is truly spot on. The tone and flow of the writing fits perfectly with Harry and Ron realizing what they are to each other and what they want to be. *sigh* go read - it's spot on length at -9k!
I don't typically rec art b/c it takes one second to click and see if you like enough to keep looking - even if it's several panels w/some text, you're going to read. But there are three comic/art-vignette style pieces that I'm going to rec b/c you might see all the writing and not sure if it's worth the extra 10 minutes to read. These three absolutely are. Go enjoy!
From bestmates_xmas there's The Time Harry Couldn't Stop Being Naked this so completely original and sweet and will make you smile and so so so vintage Harry/Ron.
From hd_holidays there are two delightful comics: A Turkey and Some Mistletoe and Christmas Orange Curse
And one final ART rec: accioslash who's little comics (especially her rating system) I love to pieces, has posted 25 days of characters that she doesn't typically draw (plus a few she does;) - go enjoy all on her tag here: Countdown to Christmas (she's also on insane journal: http://accioslash.insanejournal.com/) |

| I'm a reccing machine |
[Dec. 23rd, 2008|08:34 am] |
ETA at the top: My hp_yule_balls gift was just posted and It's Harry/Draco/Neville ART - SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! It's gorgeous. I'm so so thrilled. Everyone go look, be jealous, and leave the artist a little love:) A Good Time was Had by All NWS
A few more fest recs today...
The first one is a RUN DON'T WALK! If you admire beautiful writing and crave some high end cerebral thinking. This one is... WOW. I can't say too much for fear of spoiling it. I think it is important for this fic that the first time you experience it you should be trying to grasp what you're reading w/out knowing too much. It was inspired by the gorgeous art of lillithium (who is the gift recipient - lucky gal). I clicked on the link in the Notes after I read it. I think before or after is just fine to get the feel. And then read it again and look at the art again... (and so on and so forth) It's Magical. GO READ: All Tomorrow's Parties (Harry/Draco, R, 5400 words)
Also from hd_holidays is Requirements which a well written canon insert type of fic. I don't usually like these, but I think this one works really well and I enjoyed it a lot. By the end I was extremely emotionally worked up (in a good way) about the connection between Harry and Draco. There are warnings, but I think they're rather mild examples of those warnings. If you like to be surprised, don't read the comments. (Harry/Draco, R, 5300 words)
I have a couple of hdhols longer fics that I've seen rec'd that I'm going to give a try today. So far the one's I have seen rec'd and read, I didn't jump for joy over... I'm hoping that the trend will change.
LAST Rec w/some caveats: I'm reccing this b/c it's well written, I enjoyed it, and it is quite Different. Some folks like the kink of fisting. You'll often see it in a darker deviant sex exploration fic or perhaps a non-con. I've even read a couple "relationship" fics where the one partner wants the experience and you end up w/a hot smexy PWP. But from hp_yule_balls the 2700 word Harry/Ron fic Not Your Usual Christmas Exchange has the strange duality of a seriously sentimental family Christmas and Fisting. (I suppose hence the title) If you were intrigued as I was, go give this a try. |

| exhausted but a rec... |
[Dec. 11th, 2008|04:36 pm] |
so spent the day at the Children's Discovery Museum with a bunch of kindergardeners. Exhausted. Took 2 advil. Have my "moms" group annual mommy xmas ornament exchange party tonight. Which is always funny cause I don't celebrate xmas so I always give whatever I win to my pal "J".
So I've been keeping up w/the fest reading. Just to clear something up- as with any of my previous "rec binges" - I tend to rec things that stand out to me and that I think other people should make the time to read, so yeah, I read plenty of fics that I say "that was lovely or entertaining" but I don't rec em'. Please, no hard feelings. My rec list from this season will indeed be very short. I'd be surprised if I hit 20 stories. Capiche? Also I will not be sneaky and rec my own fics to throw people off the scent. I'm reccing so few fics that I don't think it would matter. But I will put up an offer of a PWP smutlet of your choice to anyone who picks out my yuleballs or hd-holidays fic out of the line up.
All that said... I've got a rec for you from hd_holidays. Misuse of Muggle Artifacts is my kind of story. It's a sharply written romantic comedy. The author knows how to work the UST, mis-steps, and misunderstanding to perfection. The plot is delectable, and yes, different from things I've read before. I loved all the details, both Harry and Draco, and the way the whole thing is woven together and then cinched tight at the end. Read and enjoy! |

| fest reccing post #3 :) |
[Dec. 8th, 2008|10:00 am] |
Once again I'm starting my fest reccing post w/a non-fest rec. I've been posting quite a bit a pushdragon taking her wonderful talent and even more wonderful self away from fandom. As a last goodbye she gave us one more installment to the OH SO Amazingly HOT Tale of Horns series. Go read Dragon Riding for Beginners – How the cover boy finally got it It's fantastic and yes, wraps up the series in a very masculine romantic way. I'm going to miss her. Go read all her fics if you haven't (they're recc'd on my favorites list: http://rickey.slashcity.net/favorites.html)
I've read a lot since last week and I've got a few more fest recs.
From bestmates_xmas we have: Parchment which is a short pre-slash Harry/Ron the quality of which I have never seen. It is beautifully crafted. The writing hits the emotional bullseye in this simple tale of what is said and left unsaid. I think I know who wrote this, but will be pleasantly surprised if it's someone else. (and then start stalking them;) This is my Don't Miss fic of the bunch and even if H/R isn't your thing you could read this w/sort of a Gen frame of mind and really enjoy it.
From hd_holidays we have:
My gift fic: The Piano Man and I can honestly say that I'd be reccing this even if it wasn't my "gift". But it was, and the author took a whole bunch of my random prompts (like musician!Draco and meeting in a far off land etc.) and crafted a lovely tight focussed fic (mmmm my favorite kind). My comment: Oh... sigh. This had such a gentle flow and pace to it - very simple and very natural. It had a genuine feel of two people who love each other dealing with disappointment and trying to move forward. Well done. Seriously, go love this wonderfully written fic for grownups.
Angel Wing is truly a sweet feel good fic. There's some delicious humor as well. It's an impeccably written somewhat disenchanted with life Harry caring for his pet goose (wink wink). I like the concept that feelings can develop out of anywhere.
This last H/D rec comes w/warnings. One: It's an infidelity fic and Two: It has the "kink" of sounding. So you need to be able to deal w/those issues. If you can, The Sound and the Fury is a well penned and OMFG Hawt story. I think it's a brilliant smut and kink fic, and it has that extra layer emotion that will make the H/D shipper quite happy.
And as always... If you liked something, leave the author some love. Even "I enjoyed this - thanks" makes us all warm and gushy inside. |

| moar recs |
[Dec. 4th, 2008|12:25 pm] |
So I've been reading... a lot the past few days. I'm going to be brutally honest and say that the recs I've got from the fests the past few days are coming w/some caveats. Nothing has blown me away like the two fics I'm going to rec w/out any restraint are one's that aren't from fests at all.
1st up is a fic that I meant to read when it was first posted in October, but it got lost in the shuffle of my big "to read" list and my fest writing. brummell is a fav writer of mine. If you've read Stain of Silence or Arc of the Pendulum, you know why. Her latest Six Ways In Which Harry Potter Was Like Bambi's Dad (And A Few Ways In Which He Wasn't. At All.) is so good and lives up to the light shown by its predecessors. Here's the bottom line. If you read H/D at all, even if it's every once in a blue moon - read this fic (under 7k words). Her writing is always emotionally gripping and well crafted, but more than that... when I read her work I never feel that "I have read so many stories just like this before". It's fresh! and in fanfic that's a special. Yes, there's Mpreg, and the premise sounds cracky (at least the origins of the inspiration for the story) - but this story is real and grounded in a very possible post DH world. Seriously, this was head and shoulders above all the fest stuff I've read the past few days. Top Marks!
After you've read "Bambi's Dad", I give you permission to check the rest of these recs ;P

| Fest Recs Dec 2 |
[Dec. 2nd, 2008|07:23 pm] |
So I've read quite a bit from bestmates_xmas, hp_yule_balls, and hd_holidaysthese opening couple of days of the fanfic holiday fest season. I'll probably post recs every couple days and then a recap post at the end of the month. We're headed to FL Dec 29 for a week, so I'll miss the last few days of posting, but c'est la vie.
I've got two recs today.
First from hp_yule_balls is a very short (1,232 words) Remus/Sirius- Before Rebuilding. This "winner" was a surprise to me because I'm not typically into Marauder stuff, but I really loved loved loved this R/S dynamic. Very powerful! It's an AU: This story is set in late 1981, in an AU world where Sirius does not go to Azkaban, but instead gets custody of Harry and goes into hiding, with Remus as their Secret Keeper. But don't let that scare you, because that intro line is really all you'll get regarding the set up. This is a raw intimate look at Remus and Sirius, who they are, and how they relate to each other. It's short just go read it (and leave some love if you liked it as much as I did).
The second is from bestmates_xmas and weighs in at about 17,500 words, but believe me this is a fast fast read. The writing is sharp, clever, and witty. Five Is An Odd Number is one of those Strange Wizarding Traditions that poor Harry never knew about fics. It should be crack, but it reads as earnest as needing to take an Apparition test to get a license. Go read. If you read H/R, you'll recognize the writing. It's charming, funny, and hot as hell. Even if H/R isn't your thing, give this a whirl. A feel good read for sure. |

| Deep Dark Truthful Mirror |
[Nov. 18th, 2008|01:55 pm] |
Quickie Drabble inspired by HBP trailer, Elvis Costello, and icon making fun.
Title: Deep Dark Truthful Mirror Pairing(s): Draco (Gen) Summary: One day you're going to have to face a deep dark truthful mirror… Rating: PG-13 Word Count: 185 Author's Notes: Draco was not harmed in the making of this drabble.
The mirror doesn't lie. Sure it may say some incredibly unpleasant things, but it doesn't lie. Draco laughs inwardly at the notion that his life is unpleasant. His life is hell. He looks like hell. Apparent in his eyes is the lack of sleep. His skin is dry and sallow except for the dark rings around his eyes and the Dark Mark on his forearm. Every so often it burns. He's not quite certain if it is sense memory or an actual reminder from his Lord. He tries not to dwell on the fact that while other Hogwarts students are fixated on pop quizzes, kissing in the corridors, and Quidditch, his entire life is consumed by an impossible task. He's pretty sure the outcome will be his death regardless of success or failure. Perhaps he can spare his mother. Perhaps his father will remember him with pride.
He boasts of glory and bountiful reward to his housemates. He spins tales of a marvelous future for those of pureblood who align themselves with his Lordship. He even tells himself these things, but the mirror doesn't lie.

| Art Rec and impromptu ficlet: - H/D |
[Sep. 27th, 2008|08:00 am] |
Title: Love Line Pairings: HP/DM Rating: R Word count: ~1200 Summary/Notes: I had offered up a prompt (folks had been crying out for crackish prompts) to hd_inspired back to school fest, but hadn't really been following it. Then Kapow! I almost missed this Awesome piece of art! Give Me Your Hand. Well even though it's anon… anyone who's looked at this person's art can recognize it. Nobody claimed the prompt for fic, so I had to write this short drabble/ficlet to go with it. ETA: the art was of course by the multitalented raitala
Beta thanks to Bubba and Pi for taking a quick look at this for me:)

| H/D Rec |
[Sep. 23rd, 2008|10:48 am] |
Rec of the day...
As many of you well know, I am an absolute fanfic snob. Yes, I can enjoy sheer smutty PWP's but when something has a plot and is supposed to be a "story" I look for sharp writing, solid story telling, and I am a plot construction whore. There are a lot of "good" stories out there, and not that you shouldn't read them, but there are always little bits of this and that to throw me out or that I notice like little pimples. I am reccing this next story heartily and do not think you'll find an ounce of fault with it. It's tightly woven. The characterization of Harry and Draco are wonderfully derived from canon. Hagrid and his brood of magical creatures make an excellent supporting cast that adds to the main tale, never detracting or seeming forced into the story.
Rising From the Ashes over at hd_inspired
Pairing(s): Harry/Draco Rating: R Summary: Draco Malfoy never knew that he was, for a short time, Master of the Elder Wand. He also never expected to be saved from a fate worse than death by Harry Potter, of all people. But when “The Chosen One” chooses not to save his father, Draco sets out on a course to either reclaim the wand or make Potter pay, or both. Warnings (if any): Violence, Angst, language, sexual situations. Total word count: 30,432
ETA: Author: oldenuf2nb
I will say that I did figure our who the author was. For the life of my I have no idea why the mods have left in the "notes" before the reveal on this anon fest. There've been 4 stories that I easily and correctly guessed the authors just from the headers. And I don't really think you'd need to be close friends or even know them that well. Maybe only have seen one of their headers before. Anyway... so maybe I have a slight bias, but I'm usually a pretty harsh judge, even with folks I know/read. On the other side of that coin, I haven't been too interested in back to Hogwarts fics as a genre in general and have only read a handful of stories from this fest that I've seen rec'd/discussed elsewhere. So for me to like a "Hogwarts" fic, it has to overcome my general "tired of it" feeling that I've had for quite some time. I was so impressed at the sharp focus of this fic. It never got bogged down like so many "8th year" fics do with full school year story telling of classes and meetings... Even the telling of the trials was masterfully done. Just enough to give us the exposition we needed as it set the tone and provided the motivation for our protagonist.
I also gave the author points for choosing a really smart prompt. She took a neat idea (kudos to the prompter) with a two paragraph outline and excecuted a well crafted 30k word story. If you like down and out Draco and a Harry who just wants to find his way in the world, you'll love this. It looks at many of the themes from canon and reworks them into this tale of hope, love, redemption, and acceptance. It also has an extremely realistic feel to it.
Go Read. And don't forget to leave a comment. Comments are like candy:D I must say that I always boggle when I see someone reccing a fic of mine and they've never left me a comment. We love them! We really do! |

| FIC: Three Is a Magic Number (Severus/Harry/Draco- aka Drapery) |
[Sep. 15th, 2008|10:58 am] |
Title: Three Is a Magic Number Author: rickey_a Threesome: HP/SS/DM (aka Drapery) Rating: NC-17 Genre: PWP Warnings: shmoop? Word count: ~3,300 Beta Thanks To: thevina and alisanne - because I need all the help I can get;) Summary: Sequel to Blood and Memories. A little over a year later, they're still together. Snape can hardly believe it.
Notes: So… where to begin? I thought livelongnmarry was a great idea, but didn't feel comfortable putting myself on the auction block, so I offered up consolation PWP's for anyone who still wanted to make a donation to a good cause, but was outbid in the auction. abovethestars wanted a sequel to Blood and Memories. She requested to see a glimpse of their future together. The gal has a "domestic" kink and asked me to show them in that light and then add a healthy dose of hot smut. Here goes…
