I had a lovely visit with lena3 this weekend. We saw "Milk" - which is definitely worth seeing. Some interesting parallels with what's been happening in Cali this year. Also living in the Bay Area, I sort of feel very close to San Fransisco in general and enjoy movies based here, both fiction and in the case of Milk, non-fictional history.
I've also been keeping up w/my holiday reading, and I have a few recs tonight:
From bestmates_xmas we have:
The Beard which a delightful classic style Harry/Ron- humor, sentiment, and yummy smut. Harry and Ron live together, work together, go everywhere together thus inciting rumor that they are a "couple". Interestingly neither tries to set the record straight (pun intended). What happens when one of them would like to make the rumors true... This scratched all my fav H/R itches, both with the writing and characterizations.
A Rare and Wondrous Gift is a wonderful sort of AU/timetravel fic. It's well written and reminded me a little bit of "Peggy Sue got Married" in some ways - w/Peggy actually making a different choice. It has a very romantic notion of being able to live your life differently w/out truly having to give up the alternate world. Thoroughly enjoyable.
From hd_holidays we have:
Charmed Wool This was a lovely "feel good" read. I enjoyed Draco's characterization immensely and found Harry utterly adorable. It also had the added details of Ireland (which I spent a fair amount of time in a former lifetime) and wool & knitting. Absolutely Charming.
From smutty_claus we have:
Seven-Year Hitch: A fascinating Snape/Hermione fic. I saw it rec'd by a few of my f-listers and gave it a try. I don't read much het and have only read this pair once or twice before, but I absolutely loved this story. They are perfectly matched. The story is clever and cerebral, but also very sexy and emotional as well. Their relationship and sexual development over time is fascinating to watch. The dialog is spot on. The author also didn't bog this baby down with loads of exposition. She simply gave us what we needed to fill in the story and it works like a fine tuned engine. Delish. Even if this isn't a pairing you read... be like me and give this story a try. If Snape intrigues you at all and you like canon!Hermione, you won't be disappointed. |
